Woman indicted in crash that killed man during Sanford baseball game

ALFRED, Maine - A Sanford woman has been indicted in the death of a West Newfield man after she allegedly drove her car onto the field during a Sanford youth baseball game and struck the victim when she tried to drive through a gate.

Carol Sharrow, 51, of 39 Lebanon St. Apt. C, was formally charged with 15 counts, including, manslaughter, aggravated assault, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The most serious charge of manslaughter carries a maximum 30 years in prison.

Sharrow allegedly drove her car onto the field during a baseball game at Goodall Park in Sanford on June 1.

The story went viral after cellphone video showed her careening onto the field in her Honda sedan and driving wildly around the bases as players and umpires darted for safety before striking the victim near a gate.

Killed in the incident was 68-year-old Douglas Parkhurst, who, ironically, had confessed just four years ago to a fatal hit-and-run in New York that killed a 4-year-old girl in 1968.

The additional wrinkle kept the story in the national media cycle for an extended time.

Parkhurst was at the Babe Ruth game to watch his grandson play.

The York County indictments were released to the public on Friday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather than enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
