William F. Lenfest ... combat veteran of Vietnam; at 83

ROCHESTER - William F. Lenfest died unexpectedly at his home on February 11, 2022.

Bill was born on January 27, 1939, in Rochester, and attended Spaulding High School. Bill was an avid sports fan and athlete. He had a great childhood playing baseball with friends and his beloved brother, Richard. Their Post 7 American Legion team won the first State Championship in 1956. New England sports held a big place in Bill's heart. The friendly Red Sox/Yankee rivalry between he and his brother was a decades-long source of amusement.

Bill graduated from the University of New Hampshire where he studied history, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and took ROTC. On December 2, 1961, Bill married the love of his life, Thomasine "Tommi" Levesque. He had chosen a career in the Army after graduation and was a 2nd Lieutenant when they married and were stationed in Germany. There, they had two children before returning to the states in 1965.

Bill had a 20-year career in the Army where he served as an officer in both Europe and Asia, seeing combat in Vietnam in 1967. During the rest of his military career, he and Tommi moved around the United States raising their children. After retiring from the military, Bill worked for many years for the State of New Hampshire Department of Employment Security. During retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family who will miss his devotion, quiet wisdom and good advice.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Thomasine "Tommi" Lenfest, and his parents William A. Lenfest and Marjorie (Foss) Lenfest. His is survived by his children William S. Lenfest and his wife Lynn Kasch, his daughter Kristine Tonkin and her husband Kevin, his brother Richard Lenfest and his wife Carolyn, his brother-in-law Richard Levesque and his wife Lynda, his grandchildren, Owen, Ellis and Wyler Tonkin, and his nieces and nephews, Richard Lenfest, Kristen Scheffler, Michael Lenfest, Mark Beaulieu and Sara Garner.
