Weather the big unknown as popular city events both take place today

ROCHESTER - Greater Rochester residents looking for something fun to do will have a great choice today, providing the weather cooperates.

The inaugural Granite State Fair, which has seen tremendous success, will be on its final day beginning at noon, while the hugely popular annual Porchfest musical extravaganza that features more than 30 bands and solo acts will take place in the city's downtown from noon-5 p.m.

The biggest unknown is the weather, which is forecast to see the end of any rain by midmorning with a mostly cloudy sky throughout the rest of the day.

Major grandstand events at the fair include a trailer derby at noon and the vaunted demolition derby at 7 p.m.

Other headline shows include Circus Hollywood performing outside at 2 and 5 p.m.

On Saturday helicopter rides were also offered taking off and landing from the center of the racecourse. Whether they run today or not will be determined by the amount of rain and cloud cover.

Meanwhile, Porchfest is still a go as of this posting, with the chance of rain forecast at around 35 percent at noon and reducing down to 20 percent by 5 p.m.

Participating restaurants and shops will be offering specials and discounts to attendees wearing all-access bracelets available for sale in the Union Street parking lot. All-access bracelets are only $10. The bracelet also gives purchasers access to the after party at The Garage.

And for those that can't get enough fun, there will be plenty of time to head to the fair after Porchfest.
