Waynopalooza keeps local musician's legacy alive, kindles hope for young talent

ROCHESTER - The all-day outdoor music festival Waynopalooza that honors the musical legacy of a Rochester man will again rock the stage at The Garage on Sept. 11 from noon-11 p.m.

"Last year, in honor of our father, Wayne Countryman, our family started a day of celebration and music - Waynopalooza," said daughter Gina Countryman of Rochester. "He was a very talented and self-taught musician and lyricist. In his life he impacted so many people, and his love of music and family will always be remembered.

"What better way to celebrate his memory than to help someone reach their dream of becoming a musician!"

Waynopalooza, organized by wife Carol, and children Donny, Melanie, Gina, and Rhonda, is a full day affair. Filled with music and activities including a "redneck olympics," 100 percent of funds raised will go to the Wayne Countryman Scholarship at RPAC.

Each year, two teens are selected as recipients of the Wayne Countryman Scholarship, and additional funds raised are put into the RPAC scholarship pool, benefiting students of all ages.

Last year's first recipients of the scholarship were Lacey Moberg and Franklin Dee Manning.

"The Countryman family is doing such great work in the community by starting this scholarship fund," said Jenry Towle, RPAC Director of Education. "They're not slowing down, either. This year's festival features eight local bands and fun activities planned all day long. We're so thankful they can help us provide opportunities to youth and teens in Rochester so anyone who wants to learn skills in the performing arts can."

The Sept. 11 festival is open to the public with a $5 donation, and is a family friendly event.

Featured bands include Ron Jones, Mystik Angel, Neon Gypsy, Stiletto, Limbo Cage, The Hellion, 25 Cent Habit, and Badtude. More information can be found on the Facebook event, or by calling RPAC at 603.948.1099.
