Violent fugitive corralled by task force Friday in Biddeford

PORTLAND, Maine - The U.S. Marshals Maine Violent Offender Task Force announced the Friday arrest of a Biddeford man wanted on charges including Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Conduct with a Firearm, two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Elevated Aggravated Assault.

According to Biddeford Police, on Dec. 21 officers responded to a

9-1-1 call in the area of 21 George Street for a shooting. The caller alleged that a male shot at him and fled in a vehicle. Upon subsequent investigation, authorities determined that David Matos, 27, was the alleged suspect in the shooting.

On Thursday Biddeford investigators said Matos was alleged to have been the assailant in a violent assault against a female victim. The victim was transported from Biddeford to a Boston-area hospital for severe injuries to her face after reportedly being pistol-whipped multiple times with a firearm.

Then on Friday officers were alerted to a shooting near Jefferson Street and Center Street in Biddeford. It is alleged that Matos fired at least six shots at the occupants of a vehicle. Later that afternoon, authorities developed information on Matos' whereabouts, which led investigators to an address in Saco.

The Maine State Police Tactical Team was deployed to the address, but found Matos had departed prior to their arrival.

Through a collaborative effort, investigators determined that Matos fled to an address in Biddeford, where U.S. Marshals were able to safely apprehend Matos later that evening as he left the residence on foot.

Matos was transported to the local county jail. The Biddeford Police Department is continuing their investigation with additional charges called probable.

Investigators worked into the early hours Saturday morning processing evidence from the arrest. where a loaded 9mm caliber Glock pistol, 53 grams of suspected drugs and $3,596 in cash were seized.
