A fast-moving Alberta Clipper blew into the area today, dumping several inches of snow, slickening roadways and causing a spate of accidents.

Milton Police Officer Melissa Curtin said the roads were in as bad a shape as last weekend and urged resident to stay off the roads if at all possible.

A rollover was reported in Lebanon near Stokewood Drive, while two more accidents were reported in Milton, one on White Mountain Highway near the Farm Museum and another more-serious crash on Route 16.

State Police were unavailable on Sunday for comment on the Route 16 accident.

Meanwhile, in Rochester more than a dozen cars were either reported off the road or involved in minor accidents, Rochester Police Lt. Todd Pinkham said on Saturday. None of the accidents resulted in injury, he said.

Last week’s dry weather pattern is expected to be replaced with a period over the next few days in which occasional snow will be punctuated by several more Alberta Clippers, characterized as loosely organized storms that appear out of nowhere dumping modest amounts of snow.

The storm today is expected to wind down this afternoon after dumping about a half foot.

The mild temperatures of last week are also expected to end leaving only a pleasant memory as nighttime lows will plummet below zero for four straight nights beginning on Monday.
