ROCHESTER - With the upcoming retirement of Rochester's Deputy Police Chief, several promotions were released today including that current Support Commander and Public Information Officer Andrew Swanberry will take over as deputy chief on Sunday.
The city's current Deputy Chief, Jason Thomas, will step down after serving with RPD for 32 years.
Swanberry has been with RPD since 2006 and has served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant prior to being a captain.
Lieutenant Jeremy Aucoin is being promoted to Captain, also effective Sunday. Aucoin has been with Rochester Police since 2005 with prior law enforcement experience in Bath, Maine. Aucoin has served RPD as a patrol officer, sergeant, and lieutenant in both patrol and support roles. When Aucoin assumes the Captain position, he will be overseeing the Patrol Division.
Sgt. Carl Root is being promoted to Lieutenant, also effective Sunday. Root has been with RPD since 2019 after retiring from a career with NYPD. Root has served RPD as a patrol officer and detective prior to his role as a sergeant.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Nicole Knox was promoted effective May 28th, ahead of Deputy Chief Thomas' retirement due to a temporary vacancy at the sergeant level. Sergeant Knox initially came to Rochester PD as a Communications Specialist, then became a patrol officer, followed by serving as a detective leading up to her promotion to sergeant.
Under the guidance of these individuals, the agency will continue to provide exceptional service to both the residents and visitors of Rochester.
