GORHAM, Maine - Two workers at a Gorham medical marijuana facility were treated for smoke inhalation after is fire broke out in a grow room on Friday.

Gorham Fire crews responded around 2:30 p.m. to a structure fire at 7 County Road. a 20,000 square foot facility used for cultivating medical marijuana. The fire was initially detected by two employees who attempted to extinguish it using dry chemical fire extinguishers, according to a Saturday press release. While the fire was knocked down, it was not fully extinguished until the arrival of fire crews.

First responders were able to fully extinguish the remaining fire and cut power to portions of the building to ensure safety. The two employees were treated on scene by EMS for smoke inhalation and were subsequently released.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire originated from a broken light fixture bulb, which fell onto a plastic table and smoldered before igniting.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Gorham Fire Department and the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy.
