To lose weight this works: no weigh

Ah scales.  Fish have 'em, seed plants have 'em,  music has 'em and so do most of us on our Journey. We are in'fat'uated with them.

Yet the scale really does not prove we are fat at all. We should use it as a guide, not the gospel. Although I am trying to lose weight, the evil scale is weighing everything; water, muscle, bones, organs and fat.  Yes, you can't separate everything, but even I don't believe myself when I say I am thin; I have fat organs.

On one of my previous Journeys, I got on the scale before a shower and the number was not bad. Unless I was in compulsive mode, I can’t remember why I weighed myself after drying off (didn’t wash my hair) and there were four MORE pounds that were not there 10 minutes before. By my reaction, neighbors with windows open knew I had weighed in. Did you know your pores hold water? As they are "holes" in your skin that makes sense. Decided on this particular day my pores were craters.

My research once again confirms what I have known to work best.  Only weigh yourself once a week; at the same time of day, to get the best picture of your progress.  The scale can fluctuate greatly.  Water retention and muscle buildup can play havoc with your weight reading.

The scale can give us false feelings. Good ones when the number is down or the day is ruined when the number is up.  It’s a difficult merry-go-round and has led me to sabotage my progress too many times.

In working out to shed those pounds we are strengthening our muscles.  Muscles weigh more but those are good pounds.  We need to remember this so we don't get discouraged and think, what the heck, and run for the Little Debbies.

Taking a museum tour one day, I found they had an exhibit on gravity and what your weight would be on other planets.  Pluto became my favorite planet as there I would be a thin person. Then "they" decided Pluto wasn't really a planet. So here I am on Earth feeling fat because the scale says I’m fat.

My favorite way of monitoring my progress is with jeans. I have a pair I try on once a week.  I have gone from not being able to get them up the thighs to I can close them if I lay down. I will worry about breathing later, but that’s progress.

This week I will try not to jump on a scale too often and stick to once a week for an accurate picture of my progress.

Happy Mother’s day to all.  There should be a rule that there is no weight gain no matter what we eat on Mother’s Day.  There is no rule, but this is OUR day, so we can treat ourself to something special covered in chocolate if we want to!

Affirmation: I am grateful for my life, and I treat myself like royalty every day.
