The rakes drop at 9: Rochester cleanup day slated for Saturday, April 23

ROCHESTER - Rochester Main Street will be hosting a Rochester Cares cleanup day on April 23 starting at 9 a.m.

The annual "day of caring" is a time for residents, nonprofits and business groups to volunteer their time to give downtown a spring cleaning after the winter season.

RMS board member Jeff Bisson describes Rochester Cares as "a great way for citizens to get involved and better their community."

"Rochester Cares is an annual event that brings together people of all walks to clean up downtown," said Bisson. "It's an incredible team effort."

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to meet for instructions/assignments at the Parson Main monument in Central Square. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided. Main Street will be providing large bags for trash cleanup. The City of Rochester will be donating bark mulch for volunteers to spread in public gardens and tree wells.

According to Bisson, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves, rakes, and wheelbarrows.

"All are welcome. No RSVP required," said Bisson. "We encourage individuals, families, and business/nonprofit teams to join us. Wear comfortable clothes and footwear!"
