Suspect leaves empty-handed as robbery goes awry

ROCHESTER - A man tried to rob the Rochester Walgreens early today but left empty-handed when the clerk refused to turn over any medications as demanded.

Rochester Police responded to the South Main Street pharmacy around 3:20 a.m. and arrived to find that the suspect had fled the store through a rear door.

The initial call from an employee of the store indicated a single male had passed a note to the pharmacist demanding drugs and indicated he had a weapon. The caller also indicated the male had not exited the store, but responding officers searched the interior of the building and determined the suspect had already left.

The suspect is described as a white male believed to be in his mid-20s about 6 feet tall with a thin build.

He is alleged to have passed a note to the pharmacist demanding prescription narcotics. When the pharmacist refused to give the suspect any medication he reportedly indicated he had a weapon on his person, though it was never shown.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball hat, white long sleeved shirt with grey stripes down the sleeves and dark checkered colored pants.

A Rochester Police K9 unit was called to the scene and performed a track, but the scent went cold on Winter Street.

The incident remains under investigation at this time, and police are asking for assistance in identifying the male suspect in the security photos.
