CONCORD - The House Finance Committee is holding a public hearing this afternoon on an amendment from the Governor's Office establishing a gas tax "holiday," according to a report by the New Hampshire Business and Industry Association.
According to the report, the way it would work is that any New Hampshire resident purchasing gasoline in New Hampshire between Sept. 7 and Dec. 31 could submit their receipts along with a yet-to-be-designed form and receive a reimbursement for the gas taxes that were a part of the purchase.
Any refunds given would be from the state's general fund, not the highway fund, so there would not be any negative impacts to New Hampshire's highway and bridge construction program.
If it goes through it would be of huge benefit to Granite Staters, but the proposal is a long ways from being approved and certainly not a done deal.
