ROCHESTER - Stephen John Dibble died on Sept. 21, 2024, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Steve was born on Sept. 1, 1948, in San Francisco, Calif., to William J. and Barbara (Perrin) Dibble. He was a graduate of Greenwich (Conn.) High School, Knox College and the University of Iowa School of Law. After his graduation from law school in 1973, Steve joined the Dover firm of Calderwood and Ouellette and for the next 50 years he continued to practice law in the Seacoast area.
He was a past president of the Dover Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the Strafford Rivers Conservancy. He was also instrumental in the restoration of the Rochester Opera House and the establishment of the Rochester Fellowship Kitchen.
Steve always presented himself as a "glass-half-empty" kind of guy (except when he was pouring from his favorite bottle of rum) but he was, in truth, someone who loved and lived life to its fullest. He could turn a trip to Home Depot into a comedy routine, play a mean air guitar, outdance everybody in the room and enjoy the camaraderie and fun of a round of golf with his buddies, despite his own erratic game. Above all else, he was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend a person could have.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Warner) Dibble, his son Andrew and his wife Mandy, his daughter Elizabeth Pabon and her husband Pedro and his daughter Martha and her fiance, Robert Morlang. Also surviving are four grandchildren, his brother, David Dibble, of Redding, Calif., and numerous dear friends and family members.
