ROCHESTER - City of Rochester officials are warning the public that summer pool hours may be cut back this year due to a lack of lifeguards available to ensure safety.

Residents are urged to check the rec department website daily to make sure whether the pools in Rochester, Gonic, and East Rochester are staffed.

Hours of operation may vary on a day to day basis.

"While the hours are limited compared to previous years, the hours reflect the most optimized schedule based on our staff availability," said Lauren Krans, rec director. "We are doing our best to keep the pools open as much as possible while still maintaining a gold standard of safety for the public and our staff."

As of today the only open swim this Saturday will be at the Hanson Pines pool near the high school from noon-6 p.m.

The Recreation Department is still accepting applications for certified lifeguards 15 and older. To learn more about the Rochester Recreation Department & Arena, scheduled events and activities, and to know more about pool hours, visit www.rochesterrec.com.
