ROCHESTER - Sprinkles and Smiles has been open almost a year now and continues to build their ice cream presence in the downtown with imaginative use of a wide array of toppings and candies to make their shakes (frappes), floats and ice cream cones.
"With all the toppings we have and all the candies we can virtually make anything you want," said Jeff Bisson, who added that sundaes will be coming soon.
The only ice cream they use is Gifford's of Maine. Bisson calls it the best commercial ice cream made.
Owner Marc Saxby opened Sprinkles and Smiles last July, but the ice cream part of it is really picking up, said Todd Radict of Skele-Tone Records down the street.
"People like shopping downtown and that they can walk for an ice cream right up the street," said Radict.
Bisson said they also carry Maine Root Soda with interesting flavors like mandarin, ginger brew, sarsaparilla and root beer to make some interesting ice cream floats.
Bisson said one of the more popular sellers is an Oreo milkshake, made with the fluff inside the cookie. It also comes with a chocolate-covered Oreo.
"We can pretty much make whatever you want with what we've got," Bisson added.
A small cone goes for just $3.
Sprinkles and Smiles is located at 16 North Main St. It's open Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon-4 p.m.
