Saturday shooting leaves one Berwick man dead, one seriously injured

BERWICK, Maine - One Berwick man is dead and another seriously injured after a Saturday shooting on School Street.

Police got involved around 9:05 a.m. when they responded to 321 School St. where they found two two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported from the scene by ambulance. The homeowner, 25-year-old Christopher Utt, was transported to Portsmouth Medical Center and then to Massachusetts General Hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. At this time he is in serious condition.

The other victim, 41-year-old Edward Badeau of Berwick, was transported to Wentworth-Douglas Hospital in Dover, where he later succumbed to injuries.

Maine State Police Detectives worked throughout the weekend with Berwick Police Officers to collect and document evidence in and around the home. An autopsy was conducted by the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office on Monday. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The Maine Attorney General's office is reviewing the matter as additional witnesses and evidence is collected.
