Sanford Police on hunt for multiple suspects in public trail sex assault on boy, 13

SANFORD, Maine - Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault against a 13-year-old boy by multiple individuals on a Sanford pedestrian trail.

The assault occurred Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. on part of the public trail system that runs from the YMCA skate park to Spartan Drive. The victim reported that he was approached by multiple individual on the path who attacked him sexually.

Police are urging people that use the trail system to be aware of their surroundings, walk in groups, and report any suspicious behavior to the police department by calling 207-324-3644 Ext 1.

The public can also leave an anonymous tip by calling 324-9170, Ext 4.

In the meantime police said they have upped patrols in the area.

If identified the suspects face charges of gross sexual assault, which apples when the victim is less than 14. It carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years.
