Sanford man charged with heroin trafficking

SANFORD - A Sanford man was arrested during a traffic stop on Route 202 in Lebanon on Saturday and charged with selling heroin and possessing cocaine.

Timothy Duval, 41, was picked up after Maine Drug Enforcement Agents learned he was returning from New York with a supply of heroin and requested State Police stop a car in which he was a passenger.

Beginning in December 2014, agents from the MDEA York District Task Force and Sanford Police initiated an investigation into the illegal distribution of heroin by Duval in the Sanford area. Agents learned that Duval regularly traveled to Massachusetts to purchase large amounts of heroin that he would resell from his Sanford home.

On Saturday around 10 pm, MDEA agents requested State Police stop a vehicle on Route 202 in Lebanon after agents learned that Duval was returning to Sanford with a large amount of heroin from the Bay State. Duval also had an outstanding federal arrest warrant for a probation violation.

Duval was arrested without incident by the U.S. Marshal Service. A State Police dog alerted agents to the presence of narcotics on Duval and the vehicle, a 2002 Cadillac, was seized pending the issuance of a search warrant. The driver was released at the scene.

Duval was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, because it is a federal warrant. During a search of Duval at the jail, 60 grams of heroin and 3.5 grams of cocaine were discovered concealed in a body cavity.

Duval was additionally charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin) and Possession of Cocaine. Duval is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Alfred Superior Court on March 24 on the drug charges. The estimated street value of the seized heroin is $20,000.
