ROCHESTER - We want to wish all our patrons a very Happy New Year from everyone at the Rochester Public Library! We will be closed on Friday, December 31 and January 1 to celebrate New Year's Day and will reopen January 3 with our regular hours.

Artists Wanted!

Are you a local artist interested in exhibiting your work at the Rochester Public Library? We would love to hear from you! Please email a short bio with images of your work to RPLReference@rochesternh.net

Kait's Picks

We are happy that RPL Librarian, Kait, is back with another of her great recommendation lists. She says: "Every cold day should be spent snuggling up under a warm blanket with a good book and a hot drink. In my opinion, at least. If you're looking for the perfect holiday books to curl up with, I've got you covered! From New Year's to Christmas to Hanukkah and all the holidays in between, these are some of my favorite holiday reads. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. Happy reading!

All I Want for Christmas by Wendy Loggia; It's a Whole Spiel edited by Katherine Locke and Laura Silverman; New Year's Kiss by Lee Matthews; My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins; Midnight in Everwood by M.A. Kuzniar; The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo; So This Is Christmas by Tracy Andreen; One Way or Another by Kara McDowell; Recommended for You by Laura Silverman; and Ten Blind Dates by Ashley Elston."

For more book lists like these and other bookish fun, follow Kait Plus Books at kaitplusbooks.com or @kaitplusbooks on social media! (Most of Kait's list recommendations can be found in the library. Some titles are available on the Libby app.)

Eisabella Janis Art Display

Artist Liaison and Main Desk Librarian, Melissa, shares info about our latest artist on exhibit: "The Rochester Public Library is pleased to present the artwork of Eisabella Janis during the month of December.

Janis is a former student of Pratt Institute in NYC. They paint watercolor surrealist paintings inspired by the world around them. On display is a selection of their favorite pieces. Imaginative compositions and portraits demonstrate skillful restraint and delicate application of color, while architectural landscapes highlight their eye for detail. A white-on-white figure painting, Janis' newest work, leaves viewers excited to see what they will do next." Eisabella uses they/them pronouns. Their email for purchases or requests is eisabellajanis@gmail.com

RPL Animated Recommendations

Main Desk Librarian (and syndicated cartoonist) Stephanie, and Main Desk Librarian, Karyl, have created a series of weekly animated videos recommending book, DVD and other titles available at the Library. Children's Room

Winter Story Time: You can now register for Winter Story Time. Call 603-335‑7549 or come to the library to register. Registration will remain open until Story Times are filled or through the first week of the Story Time session. The programs are free. Story Times begin the week of January 10th, 2022 and will run for six weeks.

Story Time will start in our meeting room and will last about 20 minutes. We will share three to four books alternating with fingerplays, songs, and movement, and then follow with a 30-minute "Stay & Play" in the Children's Room. This time will be for children to participate in unstructured play and socialize, while adults will have an opportunity to meet other families in the community.

Play Aways: RPL Librarian, Amy, shares: "The Children's room has many books with the accompanying Playaway® or audio book. You can read a little bit and then switch to the audio if you get tired or if you are going on a long trip. We have Land of Stories, Monngobble and Me, Wolves of the Beyond, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and some of my favorites by Cornelia Funke, including Igraine the Brave and Ghost Night, and many more. The staff in the children's room is always here to help you find just the right chapter book for young readers."

Collage Rainbow~Take It & Make It Craft: Families can pick up a kit beginning Saturday, January 8th through Saturday, January 15th or until they are gone. Pick up times are during library open hours only. The kits will be inside the Children's Room entryway. (One kit per child please.)
