Rochester woman working as flagger injured when struck by car near Frisbie

ROCHESTER - A utility pole flagger working near the Frisbie Memorial Hospital emergency room was seriously injured on Wednesday when she was struck by a motor vehicle.

The accident occurred around 11:20 a.m. when a preliminary investigation showed that Nelson St. Hilaire, 57, of Somersworth was driving a 1998 Nissan Maxima west on Whitehall Road when he struck Sarah Vaughn, 29, of Rochester.

Vaughn sustained serious injuries, and was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital by Frisbie EMS. St. Hilaire was treated at Frisbie Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was shut down until 3:25 p.m., while the Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction team, and members of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) responded to assist in the investigation.

The construction company working on the pole was Mirra Company out of Georgetown, Mass., and the flagging company Vaughn is employed by is American Flagging & Traffic Control, Inc. out of Hudson.

Police said a probe is under way, and it is not clear whether charges will be filed.
