ROCHESTER - The Rochester Police Department recently announced that Officer Jason Harris has been awarded the prestigious "Red Hayes Community Ambassador Award."

This honor, also known as the Rochester Patrol Officer Community Service Award, recognizes officers who excel in fostering positive relationships within the community.

The award is named in honor of Willis "Red" Hayes, a beloved Rochester police officer who served from the 1940s to the 1970s. Known for his buoyant spirit and exceptional communication skills, Red Hayes was a familiar and friendly presence in Rochester. His ability to connect with individuals, even in challenging situations, earned him the respect and admiration of the community. Hayes was known for his compassionate and supportive nature, and his approach to law enforcement emphasized guidance and positive interaction over hostility.
