ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison for bank robbery in federal court on Thursday, according to a United States District Court press release.
Thomas Hegarty, 21, of 2 Coexeter Square in Rochester, was charged in January 2015 for bank robbery for walking into a Bank of America branch in Rochester, holding an object under his sweatshirt to simulate a weapon and handed the teller a note demanding money. No weapon was shown and no one was injured.
Hegarty walked out with $400, but police checked surveillance images and picked him up later the same day.
He pleaded guilty to the robbery charge, a Class B felony, in September. After his stint in prison he'll have three years of supervised release.
Hegarty must also pay full restitution.
