Rochester man gets 21 months in prison for robbing Dover bank last July

CONCORD - A Rochester man was sentenced to 21 months in prison for committing a bank robbery in Dover last July.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on July 12, 2018, James Aubin, 46, formerly of Jay Way, entered the Bank of New Hampshire branch on Central Avenue in Dover and demanded money from the teller. The teller gave Aubin a quantity of United States currency. After images from bank surveillance videos were shown on local news outlets, investigators were able to positively identify Aubin as the robber.

After being arrested, Aubin admitted to robbing the bank. He pleaded guilty on April 23.

"Bank robberies are violent crimes that endanger bank employees, customers and members of the public," said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray. "In order to deter this conduct and maintain community safety, we are fully prepared to seek prison sentences for bank robbers. Those inclined to steal money by threatening bank tellers should consider the consequences before committing the crime."

"James Aubin told police he 'made a bad decision' when he robbed the Dover branch of Bank of New Hampshire last summer. As a working, middle-aged father, the time to know better was before he terrified a teller into carrying out his demands," said Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division. "While today's sentence reflects Mr. Aubin's acceptance of responsibility, it should also teach him there are no excuses that help the innocent traumatized by this inherently violent crime to sleep better at night."
