Riverside Rest Home suffers Covid outbreak in midst of stifling heat wave

DOVER - In the midst of a record-setting heat wave Riverside Rest Home is contending with a Covid-19 outbreak that restricts the number of fans that can be used in the aging facility that has no central air.
The outbreak involves one unit, which has 15 positive cases, Assistant Administrator Dee Brown told The Rochester Voice today.
"It's isolated to one unit," she said. "They are all mask-on in that unit, and they are not mixing with the other units, so we can keep it contained."
Brown added that family members are not restricted from visiting, and upon entering the lobby will see a large white board with all the information they need to know to understand the protocols.
The outbreak has been emerging the past two weeks and last week spread some more, but Brown believes they will soon see a reduction in infections.
"Everyone is keeping vigilant," she said. "I anticipate the number to start declining. Everyone (residents) is doing good, with either very minor symptoms or no symptoms."
Fans can actually spread germs, said Brown, who noted most of the rooms have air conditioners but not most common areas.
She said in the unit that is affected the temperature this morning was well over 80.
"Very uncomfortable," she said.
