ROCHESTER - Rick A. Burkhead, 71, of Rochester, died peacefully after a short, but courageous battle with cancer on Monday, January 11, 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio to J. Warren and Hazel R. Burkhead on September 9, 1949, he spent most of his years in St. Paul, Va.
After serving four (4) years in the Navy, Rick attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., where he earned a Civil Engineering degree, and later passed the Professional Engineering (P.E.) exam. His engineering degree took him to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Thailand to work on construction/engineering projects.
From 2004-2016, Rick was employed by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations' (OBO) where he worked on construction management projects throughout the world. He retired in 2016 and moved to New Hampshire with his spouse.
Rick is predeceased by his parents, J. Warren and Hazel Burkhead, his in-laws, Norman J. and Beatrice LaBrecque and brother-in-law and best friend, Norman "Frenchie" LaBrecque, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Edythe of 49 years; sister Karen B. Price of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Barbara LaBrecque of Rochester; nieces Kimberly Merkel, Virginia Beach, Brandie Trepanier, Rochester; nephews Brandon Price, Virginia Beach and Michael LaBrecque of Rochester; and one grandniece and four grandnephews.
