DOVER - Co-prosecutors in last week's trial of a Rochester man accused in a severe beating that resulted in the rupturing of the victim's spleen said they are mulling a possible reindictment after a mistrial was declared.
"We are very disappointed the jury did not return a guilty verdict," said Strafford County Assistant Attorney Alexander Andruzzi, who prosecuted the case along with Attorney Laura DelCamp.
"We will try to determine our next step in the coming days."
Joseph Carignan, 36, of 49 Royal Crest, had been charged with second degree assault for allegedly, "kicking or punching the victim causing his spleen to rupture" in connection with an incident that occurred on Nov. 27, 2019.
Andruzzi said he couldn't comment on how the jury polled or any other aspects of the mistrial.
