CONCORD -- An investigaion is under way into the death of a Concord woman in the Merrimack River.
Marine Patrol got involved in the incident around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday after learning of a possible drowning in the river involving a victim later identified as Claire Knowles, 67.
A preliminary investigation determined that Knowles was swimming after her tube in a mild current in the river, and as she was returning to shore, she suffered a medical event, according to a Sunday press release from the Dept. of Safety. Two good Samaritans made lifesaving efforts until the first responders arrived, however these efforts were unsuccessful and Knowles was pronounced deceased.
