The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts recently hosted a pop-up art reception and open house in the vacant 56 North Main Street, in downtown Rochester. The exhibit, sponsored by the NYC Public Library and the White House, featured reimagined classic book covers made by artists from around the country.
"Recovering the Classics" has been exhibited in every state and the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts proudly represented the State of New Hampshire.
The museum (located in the Community Center and Public Library) recently announced and initiative to "brighten up the downtown" in hopes of attracting new tenants and investors. The one-night-only art show, held June 4, also doubled as an open house for the vacant property. The event was open to the public and attracted more than 75 people over the course of the evening.
The art from "Recovering the Classics" will remain on display in the library's Carnegie Gallery (curated by the museum since 2012) and in a nightly illuminated "sidewalk gallery" in the former Carnie Medical Supply store windows. Visit www.rochestermfa.org for more information.
