Politicians aim to please, and so did the Garage's turkey chili

ROCHESTER - If you're looking for a casual, airy and hospitable downtown eatery with some great food look no further than The Garage, the informal, mischievous kid brother to the more staid Steak and Ale at the adjacent Governor's Inn.

When we stopped by on Friday who did we find cooking in the kitchen but former Rochester mayor and current Rochester City Councilor Doug Lachance, who put out a bowl of turkey chili ($5) no one could vote against.

The hot and steaming bowl came with a most attractive presentation including a generous dollop of sour cream and nachos that encircled the dish.

When we dug into the hearty concoction we found lots of medium to large pieces of flavorful turkey along with plenty of vegetables.

The cook, himself, came out to see how we liked it, adding it is all homemade at the Garage.

With a $16 ounce Bud Light ($5) to wash it down it was a satisfying meal at an amazing price.

We happened to be there during the shift change when Lachance was relieved by Anthony Ejarque, co-owner of The Governor's Inn and Garage and executive director of the Rochester Opera House.

Now that's cooking with gas!
