Obit: Calvin 'Cal' Hunter Tompson ... lifelong aviator

ROCHESTER - Calvin "Cal Hunter Tompson, who was born in Rochester, February 26, 1927, died on January 17, 2014.

Flying was his lifelong love and he made his living at it. He wanted to fly since seeing his first airplane in the sky at the age of 5.

Cal was proud to be one of only three men from his hometown of Rochester, to be invited into the prestigious Quiet Birdmen Flying Organization. He spent 14 years as a test pilot for Aerofab, makers of the Lake amphibian airplane. He flew all over North and South America, as well as up and down the Amazon River, as an aircraft salesman. In 14 years he assembled and test flew over 400 aircraft from the production line. In his later years he enjoyed being an expert marksman at Hernando County Sportsman's Club. He was in WW11 Army Air Forces. He was a proud Master Mason & Shriner.

Cal leaves his wife Barbara Horne Tompson, two children Mark Tompson of Sanbornton and Elaine T. Demers of Manchester, Maine, one brother Donald Tompson, one sister Eleane Towle, and pre-deceased sister Eileen Beaudoin; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
