ROCHESTER - Norbert L. "Nobby" Marcotte, 95, formerly of Stuart, Fla., died peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 4, 1928, in Rochester, Norbert was the son of Leo and Yvonne (Grondin) Marcotte.
A Rochester native, Norbert obtained his GED and then he enlisted in the Navy where he served honorably for 5 years and received the Presidential Medal for his service. During that time, he also joined the Merchant Marine Corp as well. Once his service was complete, Norbert worked a short while for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an Apprentice Pattern Maker before beginning his true career at General Electric as a Foreman. Norbert worked there for 36 years before his retirement in 1998.
When away from work, Norbert had several hobbies, but his favorite undoubtedly was golf. Not only a passion but also a true skill, Nobby enjoyed playing well into his 90s. It wasn't until Covid kept him from the golf courses that he started to slow down. Between Farmington Country Club and Stuart Golf Course - Nobby was quite the regular and was loved by all that knew him through the sport. He also loved a good game of Yahtzee, or "cards" as he referred to it.
Though Norbert considered Rochester his home, he was a snowbird and considered Stuart his home away from home. He enjoyed many winters in the area and even served on the Board of Directors condo association for Cedar Point Village 8.
Along with his parents, Nobby is preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Marcotte; twin brother, Norman Marcotte; brother, Roland Marcotte; and sister, Estelle Belliveau.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Roger Marcotte and wife, Debra, of Milton, Anita Sanborn and husband, Robert, of East Rochester, Cheryl Root and husband, Ronald of Rochester, and June Marcotte of Stewart, seven grandchildren, seven great -grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
