Newmarket fisherman drowns in Milton Three Ponds

MILTON - A Newmarket man drowned on Tuesday when he fell off his canoe while fishing on Milton Three Ponds.

Witnesses called 911 around 9:20 a.m. to say the man was in the water of Northeast Pond and holding onto his canoe. They said some time later he attempted to swim to shore, but after swimming a short distance went under, according to a Marine Patrol press release.

A Good Samaritan swam out to the location where the victim disappeared in an attempt to locate him but was unsuccessful. The victim was not wearing a life jacket.

Marine Patrol officers located the body of Sonethanong Khongsouvankham, who was born in 1978, around 1 p.m. Other assisting agencies include Milton Police and Fire.
