CONCORD - The Attorney Generals Office announced on Wednesday that a man has been indicted in the stabbing death of a 75-year-old Manchester man on Sept. 2.

Raymond L. Moore, 40, previously of Forest, Miss., was formally charged with one count of second-degree murder for knowingly causing the death of Daniel Whitmore by stabbing him with a knife, and one alternative count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing his death under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life, by stabbing him with a knife.

Moore was also indicted on a separate count for knowingly having in his possession or under his control a knife, a deadly weapon, after having been previously convicted of a felony against the person or property of another. The crimes are alleged to have been committed while Moore was released on bail.

Whitmore was found mortally wounded along a walking trail near Nutt Pond in Manchester.

Police got involved when they received a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. for an adult male suffering from stab wounds on a trail at the western edge of the pond.

When they arrived they found the man suffering from apparent stab wounds. He received emergency medical treatment but was declared dead at the scene.

Moore, who is now being held on no bail, is scheduled to be arraigned on these indictments in Hillsborough County Superior Court - Northern District on Dec. 15.
