Maine man rescued after seriously hurt in 30-foot fall into gorge

GRAFTON TOWNSHIP, Maine - A Maine man was rescued by Game Warden after he fell some 30 feet from a ledge onto rocks near the Screw Auger Falls waterfall on Wednesday.

Game Wardens responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m. to aid 21-year-old Brexton Getchell of Unity who had sustained serious injuries when he landed in the water.

Multiple state agencies including LifeFlight of Maine responded to the scene which involved challenging terrain in and around the falls.Rescuers carried Getchell through the water to a point some 300 feet downstream in order to safety extricate him to a point of safety where was then transported to Maine Medical by a LifeFlight helicopter.
