Maine man arrested for DUI in multi-vehicle crash on I-95 that injured 3

NORTH HAMPTON - A Maine man was arrested for aggravated DUI on Sunday after the car he was driving northbound on Interstate-95 crossed the median and struck a vehicle headed south, which led to collisions of two other vehicles.

State Police responded around 9:15 p.m. to the area of I-95 South in the area of mile marker 6.6 in North where they found the crash involved four vehicles and had resulted in injuries to three.

Due to the number of vehicles involved in the crash and a large amount of debris spanned across all travel lanes of Interstate 95 South, Troopers shut down all southbound travel lanes leaving just the southbound travel lane open for the flow of traffic.

An initial investigation revealed that a 2020 Subaru Outback operated by Douglas Mckay, 50, of Cape Neddick, Maine, had been traveling along Interstate 95 North when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the Subaru veered to the left and traveled across the grass median and into oncoming southbound traffic where his vehicle struck a 2013 Honda Civic being operated by Sienna Waite, 24, of Salem, Mass.

After the initial impact between the Subaru and the Honda, a 2021 Nissan Rouge being operated by Amanda Porter, 45, of Amesbury, Mass., and a 2022 Mini Cooper being operated by Ethan Jury, 34, of Philadelphia, Pa., both of which had been traveling along Interstate 95 South prior to the crash, were struck by the Subaru and/or the Honda as these vehicles separated from one another immediately after the initial impact.

As part of the investigation, Troopers determined that three total vehicle occupants had been injured as a result of the crash. The operator of the Subaru, Mckay, was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Honda, Waite, was transported to a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, an adult passenger in the Honda was transported to a local area hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the preliminary investigation by Troopers, Mckay was arrested at a local area hospital on criminal charges of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs or liquor (Class B Felony), driving under the onfluence of drugs or liquor (Class B Misdemeanor), reckless conduct (Class B Felony), and vehicular assault (Class A Misdemeanor).

While Troopers furthered this investigation at the local area hospital, Mckay was admitted to the hospital for further treatment of his injuries. In order to facilitate Mckay's admission to the hospital, a bail commissioner set personal recognizance bail pending an appearance in Rockingham County Superior Court on a date and time to be determined by the court.

While troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel worked to facilitate the removal of the involved vehicles along with the associated debris, all travel lanes of I-95 South in the immediate vicinity of the crash scene remained closed and the flow of traffic remained limited to only the left breakdown lane for about two and a half hours.
