Maine lawmen set sobriety checkpoints for tonight on Routes 202, 111

The York County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday that a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted by the Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement team tonight on Route 202 and 111.

The RIDE team which is heading the effort is made up of deputies, officers and state troopers from York County who are skilled in the detection of drug and alcohol impairment.

Sobriety checkpoints are being planned for various locations which could include Route 111 in the Lyman/Arundel area and Route 1 in Arundel and Route 202 in Waterboro.

These details are being utilized to apprehend drivers who operate under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

Drug recognition experts will be on hand during the checkpoints to assist with identifying those operating under the influence of drugs.

The YCSO indicated this event was planned with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend in mind.

According to the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, 44 people have been killed on Maine's roadways so far this year. In 2018 at this same time 35 people lost their life.

This enforcement action is funded by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
