DOVER - Lt. Col. Gerald N. Avery (Jerry), of Dover, died peacefully at the Hyder House on March 9.

Jerry was born on September 21, 1945 in Ware, Mass., to Elizabeth and Frank Avery. He grew up in Connecticut with his siblings, Patricia Morrissey, Charles Avery and the late Frank Avery.

Jerry graduated from the University of Connecticut and was commissioned into the Air Force in 1968. He flew helicopters in Viet Nam and went on to fly KC135s. He also served in Desert Storm in charge of a security police detachment.

After his retirement from the Air Force in 1991, Jerry became a Veterans Advocate for the State of NH. He helped 100s of veterans receive the monetary compensations they deserved.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cate (Wingo); his daughters, Bethany Kenyon (Garry) and Kristin Comeau (Jon); and 2 charming grandchildren, Freya and Emma.
