LEBANON - Quietly, and with little fanfare, 20-year Lebanon Firefighting veteran Dan Roy recently resigned from the department.

Roy, who served from 1986 to 1991 and then from 2001 to late June, said he ended his firefighting career chiefly to help care for his 5-month-old grandchild, Griffin, on a regular basis.

"I saw there were going to be a lot of changes come the new (fiscal) year and I didn't want to have them put me in those plans because I wanted to be there for my grandchild, so I called the chief on the phone," Roy said on Wednesday.

Just two years ago then-Assistant Fire Chief Dan Roy completed the Fire Officer 1 and 2 Academy with flying colors.

Roy also served as the department's public affairs officer.

He added he would miss the people he worked with and the camaraderie, but then quipped "but not all those meetings."
