To the editor:
On February 14 cowards in the NH House of Representatives voted to pass HB 347 to create a "Land Use Court". The bill will now go to the Senate Finance Committee where it is sure to be recommended OTP, and then pass in the full Senate.
This "Land Use Court", in addition to the 3-person appointed, unelected and thus unaccountable Housing Appeals Board, and the regular court, would add a third avenue by which developers of high density stack 'n' pack eyesores could appeal when they don't like your town's zoning ordinances. Your town's zoning ordinances are rules that YOU the townspeople voted for. Rural towns are most at risk. Single-family zoning is under attack everywhere.
I am failing to understand why the Governor and his Senate cohorts are allowing this tyranny? What's in it for them? This is not local control, nor is it the NH way. I disagree with the recent Union Leader editorial. They seem to have flipped from their previous opposition to the HAB. The HAB is nothing more than what the Bolsheviks did to the middle class in 1920s Russia -- allow the least amount of people to rule over the most. The HAB is 3 people ruling over 254 towns and cities.
Towns need to band together and take the state to court to regain control lest the state turn us into California.
