ROCHESTER - Karl Everett Fernald, 57, of Rochester, died on Feb. 17, 2024, after a 3-year battle with cancer.

Karl was born on April 15, 1966, in Northampton, Mass. He was the son of Gayle Louise (Beaupre) and Lauris Everett Fernald Jr. Karl attended school in Westhampton, Mass., including Hampshire Regional High School.

In 1984, his family moved from western Massachusetts to Dover. Karl worked many years as a Mechanical Assembler and Shift Leader at Heidelberg/Goss International in Dover. He then worked at Parker Hannifin in Kittery, Maine. His last job was at Spaulding Composites in Rochester as a Manual Machinist.

Karl was a longtime member of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) at the American Legion Post #8 in Dover. He enjoyed playing pool there.

Karl loved early morning drives to see and hear the animals in the woods and fields before the rest of the world awoke. He loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed reloading his own ammunition. He loved classic muscle cars. His pride and joy for many years was his 1967 Chevy Chevelle Super Sport. It was given to him by his grandfather when he was 16 years old. Karl and his friends spent many, many hours in his little garage. He enjoyed his CB radio and was known by many as "Screamer". From a young age, he loved taking things apart and putting them back together again to see how they worked. He loved history. He loved his Jeep. He loved animals and had many special pets throughout the years. He enjoyed music. He loved the country. Karl had several collections, including a "one lunger" steam engine. Karl was intelligent, friendly and outgoing. He would help anyone in need. His smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Karl is survived by his daughters, Hannah Fernald of Portland, Maine and Rachel Fernald of Sanford, Maine. His mother, Gayle Beaupre of Easthampton, his sister, his "adopted" sister Marilyn Witherell of Westhampton, aunts, uncles and cousins. Karl also leaves behind many, many special friends. He was predeceased by his father Lauris Fernald Jr.
