BARRINGTON - John Belmont Canney was born in Farmington, on Sept. 21, 1940, to Linwood B. Canney and Pauline M. Hamel. John married Francis Harriet (Hattie) (Allbee) Gough in April 1967. They had one son, James (Jim) who was born in 1969. Moving eventually to Barrington where they bought a beautiful home for the remainder of their lives.

John worked at Davison Rubber Company for 40 years until its closure. He met some wonderful friends while working there and around their neighborhood. John retired from Davison Rubber and took a part time job with the local community landfill until he decided living the life of leisure enjoying time with their grandson Samuel. Being a huge fan of sports, John would always watch the New England Patriots Football games and Boston Red Sox - where he would occasionally be able to attend games in Boston. John's greatest joy was attending all of his son's baseball games.

​John and Hattie loved animals. They raised Pomeranians that John took a love for and enjoyed their fur babies. His favorite being Tiny. They had a bird aviary in their home and enjoyed seeing the various breeds of birds that were part of their family.

John is survived by their son, James "Jim" Canney, his loving wife Kristin, and grandson, Samuel, and sister, Joyce Flotre and her husband, Perry, step-son, Jon Gough, and many nieces and nephews, along with dear cousins: Johnny and Sheila Canney.

John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Harriet (Hattie) Canney, parents, Linwood and Pauline Canney, brothers Raymond and Frank, stepson, Steve Gough, and step-granddaughter Jennifer Gough and niece Susan H. Drelick.
