James P. Smith "Smitty", 88, of Spruce Dr. passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 1, 1933, in Albany, NY, the son on the late Patrick and Anna (Luther) Smith.

Growing up in Albany, NY, Jim attended Cathedral Academy, until his departure at the age of 17 to join the United States Army. From there began Jim's life of service. He completed two tours in the Korean War and went on to complete two tours during the Vietnam War, where he transferred over to the United States Air Force. Jim retired from the Air Force in 1972.

From there, Jim's service continued at the Strafford County Jail and then to the Strafford County Sheriff's Department for over 20 years. After his time there, he held a position at the Strafford County Courthouse as a Bailiff.

A true patriot at heart, Jim was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1772 and the DAV, and he was also a member of the New Hampshire Police Association.

Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Smith; and siblings, Anne M. (Smith) Thomas, Patrick E. Smith, Harriet (Smith) Freeman, William L. Smith, Elizabeth (Smith) Wright, and Daniel J. Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children David Smith and his spouse Debbie Rainaud, Douglass Smith and his spouse Michael Cossette, Daniel Smith and his spouse Randee, and Sheila Comfort; nine grandchildren, Corey, Jade, Jetta, Jamie, Amber, Kaleb, Vicki, Ryan, Melissa, and twelve great-grandchildren.
