It didn't work for Gonic; it may not work for Rochester, either

Mike Kirouac makes a point while voicing his opinion to Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan during the Sept. 22 meeting at the Gonic School concerning the proposed Brickyard apartment complex (Rochester Voice file photo)

To the editor

It would have been nice to hear from the City stating that this was not a good fit for Gonic as well. I do not think this will happen from any of the City officials. This move by the City just shows how sneaky and underhanded they can be.

They say this was not hidden from the residents so why did they not let the citizens know at the beginning. Were they going to just let this play through? I think so. This was "Spot Zoning" and it was mentioned by others as well as myself. Even some comments from the planning board suggested it was spot zoning. I think Blaine Cox and the Mayor had their eye on the big money they were going to receive and not the taxpayers of Gonic.

How much was that? 1 to 2 million was mentioned. A good question for these two.

Although Catholic Charities of NH was pursuing a worthy cause and they may do a lot of good work, this project did not fit in Gonic and the citizens resoundingly said so. I am not sure it will fit in Rochester either. Lets see if they keep it hidden from the rest of the City.
