CONCORD - Secretary of State David Scanlan was joined by Eric Forcier, Deputy Secretary with the Bureau of Securities Regulation, and Barry Glennon, Director of the Bureau of Securities Regulation, on Thursday to announce the launch of the first edition of The New Hampshire Investor Guide: Strategies for Investing Wisely and Avoiding Financial Fraud.

This guide serves as an introduction to the Bureau's Invest Smart NH educational initiative and website www.InvestSmart.nh.gov.

A recent Library of Congress report found that many investors "lack essential knowledge of the most rudimentary financial concepts". Some people are concerned that they don't know how or where to start investing or simply don't have enough money.

Designed in line with one of the Bureau's missions -- to protect and educate investors - the Investor Guide and Invest Smart NH program is a long-term effort to equip the people of New Hampshire with the knowledge they need to make smart investments and avoid financial fraud. The guide, available for free in English and Spanish, is a useful tool for both experienced and first-time investors.

The Invest Smart NH website features evergreen content with tips on how to avoid common scams, report financial fraud and balance the risks and rewards of investing. On top of these resources, the Invest Smart NH program will also conduct regular investor education sessions throughout the state. True to its name, Invest Smart NH is an important investment in the people of New Hampshire.
