BANGOR, Maine - The story of Travis Mills was without a doubt the most riveting and emotional of all moments at the state’s Republican Convention this past weekend in Bangor.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills was on foot patrol in Afghanistan two years ago on April 10 when during a break he put his rucksack down on an IED.

Within seconds comrades and medics had put tourniquets on all four extremities, and he survived. He is one of only five soldiers to do so.

Now, using prosthetic legs and arms, he is learning to walk and hold his child and his loving wife.

First Lady Ann LePage introduced the convention to Travis Mills during her talk on Friday when she described how deeply and passionately she and the governor feel about taking care of all of our veterans who have fought and died to keep us free.

It is an extremely inspiring message of triumph that will leave those who take the time to watch it emotionally wrought and proud to be an American.
