ROCHESTER - Bartlett's on North Main Street, a quaint new yarn and gift shop, is the flagship store of the iconic Bartlettyarns. The yarns and rovings are produced on antique textile equipment, including the last remaining spinning mule in the United States.
Rochester, with a proud textile history, had 17 woolen mills, and the Gonic Mill also ran spinning mules, spinning 8,000 bobbins. Bartlettyarns only spins 240.
With more than 70 colors in yarns and roving, which are used for spinning and the popular craft, needle felting, this shop is packed with all things sheep and wool related.
Classes in knitting, crochet and needle felting are offered, and if you are looking for a unique gift, this store may have it. Owner Susan Rice said when she set out trying to figure the best location, she quickly settled on North Main Street.
"Why? It's simple," she said. "We believe in the revitalization of downtown Rochester and its rich historic past. The store is open Wednesday-Saturday at 30 North Main St.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bartlett's will be celebrating Knit in Public Day, a worldwide celebration of knitting.
