SOMWERSWORTH - A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday in a head-on crash with another vehicle whose driver was arrested for drunken driving following the collision.
Somersworth Police first got involved around 11:05 p.m when they responded to the report of a crash on Salmon Falls Road near the intersection of Maloney Street. Upon arrival officers and emergency personnel located a 2025 Honda CMX500 motorcycle and a 2006 Honda Civic sedan that were involved in a head-on collision in the westbound lane of travel, according to a statement sent out today by Somersworth Police.
The operator of the motorcycle was seriously injured and transported to Wentworth Douglass Hospital and later to a Boston hospital. The operator was wearing a helmet.
The operator of the Honda Civic was uninjured and ultimately placed under arrest for felony Driving While Intoxicated. The Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team conducted a technical crash investigation.
At this time the Somersworth Police Department will be withholding the victim's name, pending the proper notification of all their family members.
The operator of the Honda, Connor J. Contella, of Berwick, Maine, is being held at the Strafford County Jail pending his arraignment today.
