ROCHESTER - We celebrated Rochester's return to onsite dining on Monday with a visit to one of the city's grand dames of haute cuisine, The Governor's Inn.

The inn's grounds afford both The Spaulding Steak and Ale and the nearby Garage ample space for easy social distancing in a truly bucolic setting.

We chose a shaded table out by Wakefield Street that made for a long walk for our waiter, who couldn't have been nicer.

We chose the Sauteed Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer followed by a Fraddock Sandwich.

The Brussel sprouts ($9) were served in a tasty yet unobtrusive garlic butter sauce with crispy pancetta, which is sort of an Italian bacon. We found the sprouts perfectly cooked, a touch al dente the way we like it.

The Fraddock Sandwich ($12) comprised a generous portion of perfectly seasoned haddock that tasted just off the boat, along with french fries and cole slaw

We washed it down with one of their specialty cocktails: a Phase One ($8), which consists of a couple of flavored vodkas, a couple of liqueurs and sour mix served in a 16-once ice-filled plastic cup. It may be called a Phase One but you'll probably want two.

The staff were incredibly friendly and even better, appeared to having a good time under somewhat trying circumstances.

The hostess was also helpful and engaging even offering to take our picture making for a picture perfect lunch.
