Today is the epicenter of what could easily be a record-setting, four-day heat wave.
An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Greater Rochester area from noon today till 8 p.m.
Today's heat index will likely be a modern-day record reaching 111 degrees in the sun and 105 in the shade. Temperatures will hit the 90s a little before 10 a.m. and hit 100 not long after noon, according to Accuweather forecasters.
They won't dip below 90 till around 8 p.m.
Thursday is predicted to be a little cooler, with a high of 99 accompanied by a heavy afternoon thunderstorm that could features high winds and hail. Friday will see cooler temps in the low 80s but remain humid.

Rochester City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Rochester Public Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Safety tips urge folks to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Warm overnight low temperatures in the 70s can also result in greater cumulative heat stress, safety officials note..

Central Maine Power offers these tips on staying cool and managing your energy bill:
• Close curtains during the day to block sun and heat
• Use ceiling fans for cooling
• Use the Energy Saver feature on cooling systems like window air conditioning units or heat pumps
• Consider using appliances like washers and dryers after 8 p.m. to avoid peak daytime hours
• Maintain clean air conditioning filters
• Stay hydrated and rest often when outside; limit hard outdoor work
• Keep in touch with someone for heat-related help if you think you might require assistance
• Stay in a cool place - if your home doesn't have air conditioning try going to your local library or a movie theater, or an area cooling center
