ROCHESTER - A Freedom man formerly from Rochester was arrested on Saturday on a slew of charges after a bicycle traffic stop at the corner of Columbus and South Main.
Fred Bridges, 51, of 35 Johns Blvd., Freedom, formerly of Winter Street, Rochester, was charged with drug possession for allegedly being in possession of a white powder thought to be cocaine, being in possession of Xanax without a prescription, two counts of criminal threatening and attempt to commit simple assault after he was stopped near Service Credit Union around 9:50 p.m.
Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said on Monday that during the arrest Bridges became combative and tried to head-butt one of the arresting officers. Later in the squad car en route to Strafford County Jail he threatened to bite an officer twice, Thomas said.
Bridges was held at county jail pending an arraignment this week.
